The people are walking on silt of an alluvial fan/lake bed. The silt is coming from moraines to the right of view. Sediments about 2 m thick. Notice that water from the melting ice is remobilizing the silt and delivering it to the stream in the foreground. Headward erosion is also attacking the silt.
