Plastic Glacier Flow over Rock, Hargreaves Glacier, British Columbia

The bedrock controls the shape of the glacier bed. Here the sandstone on the right shapes two ribs in the ice. The dark diagonal is the opening of a cave with an ice roof. The indentation in the lower part of the rock may look like the Kelley's Island grooves once the ice melts away. Another view. Photo by Doug McVey.
