Objectives:
To investigate the process and products of subglacial lodgement.
Readings:
It may make more sence to read the Bennett section before the Savage paper.
Savage and Lowell, 1992, Dynamics of the Marginal Late Wisconsin Miami Sublobe, Cincinnati, Ohio, Ohio J. of Science, 92, p. 107-118.Read above with the idea of being able to tell the three different types of facies apart in the field.
Bennett and Glasser Section 8.1 p. 167-199.
Look especially at Table 8.1
(Optional, a good reference) Boulton and Paul, 1976, The influence of genetic processes on some geotechnical properties of glacial tills, Quat, Journal of Engineering Geology, v. 9, p. 159-194.

Questions: (25 pts each)
1). Consider the sequence in Benn and Glasser Fig. 8.11 B with the sequence in Savage and Lowell Fig 10. The terms are different but both authors are trying to summarize an "ideal" sequence of events. Would you say the "ideal" sequences are more alike or more different?
2). Consider the many images of flutes and the images of cavities. Is there any relationship between flutes and cavities?
Bonus Describe how subglacial tills achieve overconsolidation (10 pts). Requires reading the Boulton and Paul paper.
Evaluation will be based on both content and its presentation.
